One who knows the flower of the waters becomes endowed with flowers, offspring, and cattle. The moon is the flower of the waters. One who knows it thus becomes endowed with flowers, offspring, and cattle.

जो जल के पुष्प को जानता है, वह पुष्पवान, सन्तानवान और पशुधन से युक्त होता है। चन्द्रमा ही जल का पुष्प है। जो इसे इस प्रकार जानता है, वह पुष्पवान, सन्तानवान और पशुधन से युक्त होता है।

One who knows the abode of the waters becomes established. Fire is the abode of the waters. And one who knows the abode of fire becomes established: the waters are the abode of fire. Each rests upon the other; one who knows this stands firm.

One who knows the boat that rests firmly upon the waters stands firm indeed. The closing image: on what seems least solid of all, the knower finds the surest footing.

जो जल पर दृढ़ स्थित नाव को जानता है, वह स्वयं दृढ़ प्रतिष्ठित होता है। समापन का चित्र: जो सबसे कम ठोस दिखता है, उसी पर ज्ञानी को सबसे दृढ़ आधार मिलता है।

आपो हि ष्ठा मयोभुवः। ता न ऊर्जे दधातन। महे रणाय चक्षसे।

O waters, you are indeed the source of all that gives joy and well-being. Grant us strength, sustain us with your power. Bestow upon us the great vision, the seeing that reveals the highest truth.

हे जल, तुम ही सुख और कल्याण के स्रोत हो। हमें बल दो, अपनी शक्ति से पालो। हमें वह महान दृष्टि दो, जो परम सत्य दिखाती है।

यो वः शिवतमो रसः। तस्य भाजयतेह नः। उशतीरिव मातरः।

Yo Vah Shivatamo Rasah Tasya Bhajayateha Nah Ushatir Iva Matarah

Of your most auspicious and beneficent essence, grant us a share here and now, like eager and loving mothers rushing toward their children. Bless us with that most sacred, most nourishing part of your being.

अपने सबसे कल्याणकारी रस का हमें यहां भाग दो, उत्सुक और स्नेहमयी माताओं की भांति। अपने उस परम पवित्र, पोषक अंश से हमें तृप्त करो।

Taken from the Taittiriya Aranyaka of the Yajur Veda, the Mantra Pushpam (flower of mantras) is recited at the conclusion of most Vedic rituals and temple worship across South India. Its verses move in pairs, revealing the hidden reciprocity of the cosmos: fire is the abode of the waters, and the waters are the abode of fire; the sun rests upon the waters, and the waters rest upon the sun; so too the moon, the stars, the rain, and the year itself. One who understands water, the text declares, understands the foundation on which everything stands, and becomes established. It is traditionally chanted while offering flowers to the deity at the climax of puja. As with all Vedic texts, it is traditionally recited with svaras, the pitch accents learned from a teacher; the plain text is presented here.

यजुर्वेद की तैत्तिरीय आरण्यक से लिया गया मंत्र पुष्पम् (मंत्रों का पुष्प) दक्षिण भारत में अधिकांश वैदिक अनुष्ठानों और मन्दिर पूजा के समापन पर पढ़ा जाता है। इसके वाक्य जोड़ियों में चलते हैं और ब्रह्माण्ड की गुप्त परस्परता प्रकट करते हैं: अग्नि जल का आश्रय है, और जल अग्नि का आश्रय है; सूर्य जल पर टिका है, और जल सूर्य पर; इसी प्रकार चन्द्रमा, नक्षत्र, वर्षा और स्वयं संवत्सर। पाठ घोषित करता है कि जो जल को समझता है, वह उस आधार को समझता है जिस पर सब कुछ खड़ा है, और स्वयं प्रतिष्ठित हो जाता है। परम्परागत रूप से इसका पाठ पूजा के चरम पर देवता को पुष्प अर्पित करते हुए किया जाता है। समस्त वैदिक ग्रंथों की भांति इसका पाठ परम्परा से स्वरों (उच्चारण के आरोह-अवरोह) सहित गुरु से सीखकर किया जाता है; यहां सरल पाठ प्रस्तुत है।
