आदि शंकराचार्य

Shiva

नागेन्द्रहाराय त्रिलोचनाय भस्माङ्गरागाय महेश्वराय। नित्याय शुद्धाय दिगम्बराय तस्मै नकाराय नमः शिवाय॥

Nagendra Haraya Trilochanaya Bhasma Anga Ragaya Maheshvaraya Nityaya Shuddhaya Digambaraya Tasmai Nakaraya Namah Shivaya

To the great Lord who wears the king of serpents as a garland and who gazes upon creation through three all-seeing eyes, whose body is anointed with sacred ash as a sign of his transcendence over the material world, who is eternal, ever pure, and robed in the vast directions of space itself; to that Shiva, who is the embodiment of the syllable 'Na,' I offer my deepest salutations.

मन्दाकिनीसलिलचन्दनचर्चिताय नन्दीश्वरप्रमथनाथमहेश्वराय। मन्दारपुष्पबहुपुष्पसुपूजिताय तस्मै मकाराय नमः शिवाय॥

Mandakini Salila Chandana Charchitaya Nandishvara Pramathanatha Maheshvaraya Mandara Pushpa Bahu Pushpa Supujitaya Tasmai Makaraya Namah Shivaya

To the great Lord who is bathed in the sacred waters of the Mandakini and anointed with cooling sandalwood, who is the beloved master of Nandi and the sovereign of all the celestial attendants, who is worshipped with heavenly Mandara blossoms and an abundance of fragrant flowers; to that Shiva, who is the embodiment of the syllable 'Ma,' I offer my deepest salutations.

शिवाय गौरीवदनाब्जवृन्द सूर्याय दक्षाध्वरनाशकाय। श्रीनीलकण्ठाय वृषध्वजाय तस्मै शिकाराय नमः शिवाय॥

Shivaya Gauri Vadanabja Vrnda Suryaya Daksha Adhvara Nashakaya Shri Nilakanthaya Vrishadhvajaya Tasmai Shikaraya Namah Shivaya

To the auspicious one who is like the sun that causes the lotus cluster of Gauri's face to bloom with joy, who shattered the arrogant sacrifice of Daksha to uphold the supremacy of devotion over empty ritual, whose throat bears the sacred blue mark of the poison he drank to save all worlds, and whose banner flies the noble bull; to that Shiva, who is the embodiment of the syllable 'Shi,' I offer my deepest salutations.

वसिष्ठकुम्भोद्भवगौतमार्य मुनीन्द्रदेवार्चितशेखराय। चन्द्रार्कवैश्वानरलोचनाय तस्मै वकाराय नमः शिवाय॥

Vasishtha Kumbhodbhava Gautamarya Munindra Devarchita Shekharaya Chandrarka Vaishvanara Lochanaya Tasmai Vakaraya Namah Shivaya

To the crown of the universe who is reverently worshipped by the noblest sages, Vasishtha, Agastya, and Gautama, and by the greatest of gods, whose three luminous eyes are the moon, the sun, and the cosmic fire, beholding all of creation in its waking, dreaming, and deepest stillness; to that Shiva, who is the embodiment of the syllable 'Va,' I offer my deepest salutations.

यज्ञस्वरूपाय जटाधराय पिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय। दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बराय तस्मै यकाराय नमः शिवाय॥

Yajna Svarupaya Jatadharaya Pinaka Hastaya Sanatanaya Divyaya Devaya Digambaraya Tasmai Yakaraya Namah Shivaya

To the one who is the very form and inner essence of all sacrifice, who bears the matted locks of the supreme ascetic, who holds the mighty Pinaka bow in his hand and who has existed from before the beginning of time, who is resplendently divine, the luminous God robed in the infinite directions; to that Shiva, who is the embodiment of the syllable 'Ya,' I offer my deepest salutations.

पञ्चाक्षरमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ। शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते॥

Panchaksharam Idam Punyam Yah Pathech Shiva Sannidhau Shivalokam Avapnoti Shivena Saha Modate

Whoever recites this sacred and meritorious five-syllabled hymn in the presence of Lord Shiva shall attain the supreme abode of Shiva, and there, in that eternal realm beyond all suffering, shall rejoice forever in blissful union with the Lord himself.
