"Om Jai Shiv Omkara" is one of the most cherished and widely sung aartis in the Hindu tradition, performed every Monday evening and with special fervor during Maha Shivaratri across homes and temples in North India. The hymn celebrates Lord Shiva as the supreme reality who encompasses Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Sadashiva the transcendent, all unified in the sacred syllable Om. Its closing verse attributes the composition to Shivanand Swami, though the aarti has passed through centuries of oral tradition and is considered the collective spiritual inheritance of Shiva devotees everywhere. It is sung with a diya (lamp) circled before the Shiva Linga, filling the atmosphere with devotion and the fragrance of camphor and sandalwood.
