The Ganesh Aarti, known by its opening words "Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Deva," is among the most beloved devotional hymns in the Hindu tradition. It is widely attributed to Pandit Shardha Ram Phillauri, the 19th-century Sanskrit scholar and Hindi prose pioneer from Punjab who also composed the famous "Om Jai Jagdish Hare." Written in simple, accessible Hindi, the aarti was designed so that every household could sing it during daily worship and festivals. It celebrates Lord Ganesha's divine attributes, his compassionate nature as the remover of obstacles, and the blessings he bestows upon all who seek his grace. The hymn is an essential part of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and is sung in homes and temples across India and the diaspora.
