ततो युद्धपरिश्रान्तं समरे चिन्तया स्थितम्। रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्ट्वा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम्॥
Tato yuddha-parishrantam samare chintaya sthitam Ravanam chagrato drishtva yuddhaya samupasthitam
Then, seeing Rama exhausted from battle and standing lost in thought, with Ravana before him, arrayed for war once more, Sage Agastya descended from the heavens to bestow sacred wisdom, for the moment of supreme crisis had arrived.
युद्ध से थके हुए, रणभूमि में चिन्ता में डूबे राम को, और सामने युद्ध के लिए उपस्थित रावण को देखकर,
दैवतैश्च समागम्य द्रष्टुमभ्यागतो रणम्। उपागम्याब्रवीद् रामं अगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः॥
Daivataischa samagamya drashtum abhyagato ranam Upagamyabravid Ramam Agastyo Bhagavan Rishih
The blessed sage Agastya had come with the gods to witness the great battle. Approaching Rama with compassion and urgency, he spoke these words: the eternal secret that defeats all darkness was about to be revealed, and the fate of creation hung in the balance.
देवताओं के साथ युद्ध देखने आए भगवान ऋषि अगस्त्य राम के पास आकर बोले:
राम राम महाबाहो शृणु गुह्यं सनातनम्। येन सर्वानरीन् वत्स समरे विजयिष्यसे॥
Rama Rama maha-baho shrinu guhyam sanatanam Yena sarvan arin vatsa samare vijayishyase
O Rama, O mighty-armed Rama, hear this eternal and sacred secret. By this supreme knowledge, dear one, you shall conquer all your enemies in battle. This is the timeless wisdom of the cosmos, hidden from the unworthy, now given freely so that righteousness may prevail over evil.
हे महाबाहु राम, यह सनातन गुप्त स्तोत्र सुनो, जिससे हे वत्स, तुम युद्ध में समस्त शत्रुओं पर विजय पाओगे।
आदित्यहृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रुविनाशनम्। जयावहं जपेन्नित्यं अक्षय्यं परमं शिवम्॥
Aditya-hridayam punyam sarva-shatru-vinashanam Jayavaham japen nityam akshayyam paramam shivam
This is the Aditya Hridayam: sacred, pure, and the destroyer of all enemies. He who recites it always shall be led to victory; it is inexhaustible and supremely auspicious. This hymn resides in the very heart of Aditya, the Sun, the soul of the universe, and its power is infinite and eternal.
यह पवित्र आदित्य हृदय समस्त शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाला है, विजय दिलाने वाला, अक्षय और परम कल्याणकारी; इसका नित्य जप करो।
सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्। चिन्ताशोकप्रशमनं आयुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम्॥
Sarva-mangala-mangalyam sarva-papa-pranashanam Chinta-shoka-prashamanam ayur-vardhanam uttamam
This hymn is the most auspicious of all that is auspicious, the destroyer of all sin. It calms anxiety and grief, and it bestows the greatest extension of life and vitality. For Rama, crushed beneath the weight of sorrow and the burden of relentless war, these words were medicine, restoration, and a call back to his divine purpose.
यह समस्त मंगलों का मंगल है, समस्त पापों का नाश करने वाला, चिन्ता और शोक को शान्त करने वाला, और आयु बढ़ाने वाला उत्तम स्तोत्र है।
रश्मिमन्तं समुद्यन्तं देवासुरनमस्कृतम्। पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम्॥
Rashmi-mantam samudyantam deva-sura-namaskritam Pujayasva Vivasvantam Bhaskaram Bhuvaneshvaram
Worship Vivasvat, the radiant one, rising in his full glory of golden rays, adorned before whom both gods and demons bow in reverence. Adore Bhaskara, the maker of light, the sovereign lord of all the worlds, for in him resides the supreme creative and sustaining power of existence.
किरणों से युक्त, उदय होते हुए, देवों और असुरों से नमस्कृत विवस्वान सूर्य की पूजा करो, जो भुवनों के ईश्वर और जगत के प्रकाशक हैं।
सर्वदेवात्मको ह्येषः तेजस्वी रश्मिभावनः। एष देवासुरगणांल्लोकान् पाति गभस्तिभिः॥
Sarva-devat-mako hyesha tejasvi rashmi-bhavanah Esha devashura-gananl lokan pati gabhastibhih
He is the soul of all the gods, blazing with incomparable radiance, nourishing all worlds with his life-giving rays. All divine beings and the hosts of demons are contained within his being, and it is his light alone that sustains every living creature in every realm.
ये ही समस्त देवताओं की आत्मा हैं, तेजस्वी और किरणों से जगत को जीवन देने वाले; ये ही अपनी रश्मियों से देवों, असुरों और सब लोकों का पालन करते हैं।
एष ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च शिवः स्कन्दः प्रजापतिः। महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपां पतिः॥
Esha Brahma cha Vishnushcha Shivah Skandah Prajapatih Mahendro Dhanadah Kalo Yamah Somo hyapam patih
He is Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer. He is Skanda, Prajapati, Mahendra, Kubera the lord of wealth, Yama the lord of death. He is Soma the moon and the lord of waters, all divine forces unified in a single radiance, for the Sun is not one among many gods but the living totality of all divinity.
ये ही ब्रह्मा हैं, विष्णु हैं, शिव, स्कन्द और प्रजापति हैं, महेन्द्र, कुबेर, काल, यम, सोम और वरुण भी ये ही हैं।
पितरो वसवस्साध्याः ह्यश्विनौ मरुतो मनुः। वायुर्वह्निः प्रजाः प्राण ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः॥
Pitaro Vasavah Sadhya hyashvinau Maruto Manuh Vayurvahnih Prajah Prana Ritu-karta Prabhakara
He is the ancestors, the Vasus, the Sadhyas, and the twin Ashvins, healers of the gods. He is the Maruts, Manu, Vayu the wind, Agni the sacred fire, and the life-breath of all beings. He is the maker of seasons, Prabhakara, the one whose light is the very source of time and life, the pulse of creation itself throbbing in the heart of the cosmos.
पितर, वसु, साध्य, अश्विनीकुमार, मरुद्गण, मनु, वायु, अग्नि, प्रजा, प्राण, ऋतुओं के कर्ता और प्रभाकर, सब ये ही हैं।
आदित्यः सविता सूर्यः खगः पूषा गभस्तिमान्। सुवर्णसदृशो भानुर्हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः॥
Adityah Savita Suryah Khagah Pusha Gabhastiman Suvarna-sadrisho Bhanurhiranya-reta Divakara
He is Aditya, Savita, Surya, the sky-traveler Khaga, Pusha, and the many-rayed Gabhastiman. He is golden as refined gold itself; he is Bhanu, the luminous one, Hiranyareta, the golden-seeded. He is Divakara, the maker of the day, whose first rays dissolve the terrors of the night, as Rama was called now to dissolve the darkness of Ravana's demonic reign.
ये आदित्य हैं, सविता, सूर्य, आकाश में विचरने वाले खग, पूषा, गभस्तिमान, स्वर्ण के समान भानु, हिरण्यरेता और दिवाकर।
हरिदश्वः सहस्रार्चिः सप्तसप्तिर्मरीचिमान्। तिमिरोन्मथनः शम्भुस्त्वष्टा मार्तण्ड अंशुमान्॥
Haridashvah sahasrarchi sapta-saptir Marichiman Timironmathanah Shambhus tvashtha Martanda Ansuman
He rides green horses, blazes with a thousand flames, and drives the seven-horsed chariot. He is Marichiman, the one who shines with infinite rays, and Timironmathana, the destroyer of darkness. He is Shambhu, Tvashtha the celestial craftsman, Martanda the egg of the cosmos, and Ansuman the radiant. In each name resides a power, and together they form the complete armor of the Sun against all evil.
हरित अश्वों वाले, सहस्र किरणों वाले, सात घोड़ों वाले, मरीचिमान, अन्धकार का मंथन करने वाले, शम्भु, त्वष्टा, मार्तण्ड और अंशुमान।
हिरण्यगर्भः शिशिरस्तपनो भास्करो रविः। अग्निगर्भोऽदितेः पुत्रः शङ्खः शिशिरनाशनः॥
Hiranyagarbhah Shishiras tapano Bhaskaro Ravih Agnigarbho Aditeh putrah Shankhah Shishira-nashanah
He is Hiranyagarbha, the golden womb from which creation itself was born. He is Tapana who gives warmth, Bhaskara who illumines, Ravi the ever-moving, Agnigarbha the fire-wombed. He is the son of Aditi, mother of all gods, and Shankha, the destroyer of cold and inertia. All that exists was born from his light and returns into his radiance at the end of time.
हिरण्यगर्भ, शिशिर, तपन, भास्कर और रवि, अग्नि को गर्भ में धारण करने वाले, अदिति के पुत्र, शंख और शिशिर का नाश करने वाले।
व्योमनाथस्तमोभेदी ऋग्यजुःसामपारगः। घनवृष्टिरपां मित्रो विन्ध्यवीथीप्लवङ्गमः॥
Vyomanathas tamobhedi Rig-Yajuh-Sama-paragah Ghanavrishtir apam mitra Vindhya-vithi-plavangamah
He is the lord of the sky, the piercer of all darkness and ignorance. He has transcended the Rig, Yajur, and Sama Vedas; the scriptures themselves arise from and point back to him. He brings the heavy rains, the friend of all waters, leaping freely over the Vindhya ranges. No barrier of mountain, mind, or circumstance can obstruct his sovereign passage through the heavens.
आकाश के स्वामी, अन्धकार को भेदने वाले, ऋग्, यजुः और साम वेदों के पारगामी, घन वर्षा के कारण, जल के मित्र, और विन्ध्य पथ को लांघने वाले।
आतपी मण्डली मृत्युः पिङ्गलः सर्वतापनः। कविर्विश्वो महातेजाः रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः॥
Atapi Mandali Mrityuh Pingalah Sarva-tapanah KavirVishvo Mahatejah Raktah Sarva-bhavodbhavah
He is Atapi who blazes with summer heat, Mandali the disc-form, Mrityu the face of death itself. He is Pingala the tawny one, Sarvatapana who heats all creation without exception. He is the cosmic poet Kavi, Vishva the all-pervading, Mahateja of supreme brilliance, Rakta the red-hued. And he is Sarva-bhavodbhava: the ultimate source from which all existence springs.
आतपी, मण्डली, मृत्यु स्वरूप, पिंगल, सबको तपाने वाले, कवि, विश्व, महातेजस्वी, रक्त वर्ण और समस्त सृष्टि के उद्गम।
नक्षत्रग्रहताराणामधिपो विश्वभावनः। तेजसामपि तेजस्वी द्वादशात्मन् नमोऽस्तु ते॥
Nakshatra-graha-taranam adhipo vishva-bhavanah Tejasam api tejasvi Dvadashatman namo'stu te
He is the sovereign lord of all stars, planets, and constellations in the vault of heaven. He is Vishvabhavanah, the sustainer and nourisher of the entire universe without limit. He is the radiance even within all radiances, the light behind every lesser light. O twelve-formed Sun, the twelve months and all forms of time bow in humble reverence before you.
नक्षत्रों, ग्रहों और तारों के अधिपति, विश्व के पालक, तेजस्वियों में भी परम तेजस्वी, हे द्वादश स्वरूपों वाले सूर्य, आपको नमस्कार।
नमः पूर्वाय गिरये पश्चिमायाद्रये नमः। ज्योतिर्गणानां पतये दिनाधिपतये नमः॥
Namah purvaya giraye pashchimayadraye namah Jyotirganam pataye dinadhipataye namah
Salutation to the eastern mountain where you rise in glory each morning. Salutation to the western mountain where you descend, completing your sacred daily passage. Salutation to the lord of all luminaries, all stars and constellations attending upon you. Salutation to the master of the day, into whose hands every dawn is freshly given.
पूर्व गिरि को नमस्कार, पश्चिम गिरि को नमस्कार, ज्योतियों के गणों के स्वामी और दिन के अधिपति को नमस्कार।
जयाय जयभद्राय हर्यश्वाय नमो नमः। नमो नमः सहस्रांशो आदित्याय नमो नमः॥
Jayaya jaya-bhadraya haryashvaya namo namah Namo namah sahasransho Adityaya namo namah
Salutation, salutation to the bringer of victory and auspiciousness in all endeavors. Salutation to Haryashva, the driver of the green horses of dawn, green as new creation. Salutation, salutation, O thousand-rayed Sahasranshu, your beams reaching every corner of existence. Salutation, salutation to Aditya, the son of Aditi, the limitless and the liberated one.
जय स्वरूप को, विजय और कल्याण देने वाले को, हरित अश्वों वाले को बार-बार नमस्कार, सहस्र किरणों वाले आदित्य को बार-बार नमस्कार।
नमः उग्राय वीराय सारङ्गाय नमो नमः। नमः पद्मप्रबोधाय मार्तण्डाय नमो नमः॥
Namah ugraya viraya sarangaya namo namah Namah padma-prabodhaya Martandaya namo namah
Salutation to the fierce one, the heroic one, the protector who is Saranga. Salutation, salutation to the awakener of the lotus, whose very rising opens the sleeping flower of the heart. Salutation to Martanda, the undying cosmic egg, from whom the whole universe was hatched. As the lotus opens to the Sun without effort, may Rama's heart open now to receive divine courage.
उग्र को, वीर को, सारंग को बार-बार नमस्कार, कमलों को जगाने वाले मार्तण्ड को बार-बार नमस्कार।
ब्रह्मेशानाच्युतेशाय सूर्यायादित्यवर्चसे। भास्वते सर्वभक्षाय रौद्राय वपुषे नमः॥
Brahmeshanachyuteshaya Suryaya Aditya-varchase Bhasvate sarva-bhakshaya Raudraya vapushe namah
Salutation to the lord of Brahma, Shiva, and the eternal Achyuta who never falls. Salutation to Surya blazing with the incomparable brilliance of Aditya. Salutation to the all-consuming Sarva-bhaksha, devouring time and dissolution alike, and to the terrifying Raudra form, destroyer of all that stands against the cosmic order.
ब्रह्मा, शिव और विष्णु के भी ईश्वर को, सूर्य को, आदित्य के तेज वाले को, प्रकाशमान, सबको भस्म करने वाले, रौद्र रूप को नमस्कार।
तमोघ्नाय हिमघ्नाय शत्रुघ्नायामितात्मने। कृतघ्नघ्नाय देवाय ज्योतिषां पतये नमः॥
Tamoghnaya himaghnaya shatru-ghnayamit-atname Kritaghna-ghnaya devaya jyotisham pataye namah
Salutation to the destroyer of darkness and the dispeller of cold and inertia. Salutation to the slayer of enemies and the one of immeasurable, boundless soul. Salutation to the destroyer of the ungrateful, of those who forget the divine light within them. Salutation to the resplendent god, the sovereign master of all lights in heaven and earth.
अन्धकार के नाशक को, हिम के नाशक को, शत्रुओं के नाशक को, अमित आत्मा वाले को, कृतघ्नों का नाश करने वाले देव को, ज्योतियों के पति को नमस्कार।
तप्तचामीकराभाय वह्नये विश्वकर्मणे। नमस्तमोऽभिनिघ्नाय रुचये लोकसाक्षिणे॥
Tapta-chamikara-bhaya vahnaye vishva-karmane Namasthamo-abhi-nighnaya ruchaye loka-sakshineh
Salutation to the one whose form blazes like molten gold just poured from the forge. Salutation to the sacred fire/Agni, the purifier, and to Vishvakarma, the architect of the cosmos. Salutation to the supreme destroyer of darkness in its most profound and tenacious forms. Salutation to Ruchi the resplendent, and to Loka-Sakshi, the eternal witness of all worlds.
तपे हुए स्वर्ण के समान आभा वाले को, अग्नि स्वरूप को, विश्वकर्मा को, अन्धकार को नष्ट करने वाले, कान्तिमान, जगत के साक्षी को नमस्कार।
नाशयत्येष वै भूतं तदेव सृजति प्रभुः। पायत्येष तपत्येष वर्षत्येष गभस्तिभिः॥
Nashayatyesha vai bhutam tadeva srijati Prabhuh Payatyesha tapatyesha varshayesha gabhastibhih
He it is who dissolves all of existence at the time of cosmic dissolution. And he it is, the same Lord, who creates it all again with sovereign creative will. With his rays he sustains all life, with his heat he draws the waters upward into clouds, and then as rain he pours them back, nourishing every seed and every creature below.
यही प्रभु समस्त भूतों का संहार करते हैं और फिर उन्हीं की सृष्टि करते हैं; यही अपनी किरणों से जल सोखते हैं, तपते हैं और वर्षा करते हैं।
एष सुप्तेषु जागर्ति भूतेषु परिनिष्ठितः। एष एवाग्निहोत्रं च फलं चैवाग्निहोत्रिणाम्॥
Esha suptesu jagarti bhutesu parinishthitah Esha evagni-hotram cha phalam chaiva agni-hotrinam
When all creatures sleep, he alone remains awake, the eternal and vigilant witness. He is established within all beings as the innermost light that never goes out. He himself is the sacred fire of the Agnihotra ritual, the flame kindled at dawn and dusk. And he is the very fruit, the liberation, that the one who tends that sacred fire attains.
ये सब प्राणियों के सो जाने पर भी उनके भीतर जागते रहते हैं; ये ही अग्निहोत्र हैं और अग्निहोत्रियों को मिलने वाला फल भी।
वेदाश्च क्रतवश्चैव क्रतूनां फलमेव च। यानि कृत्यानि लोकेषु सर्व एष रविः प्रभुः॥
Vedash cha kratavash chaiva kratunam phalam eva cha Yani krityani lokeshu sarva esha Ravih Prabhuh
He is the Vedas, the scriptures of divine revelation given at the dawn of creation. He is the sacrifices and rituals, and he is also the fruit that those rituals bestow. All actions undertaken in all the worlds, every deed of righteousness and power, exist within and find their ultimate purpose in Ravi, the sovereign Sun, the supreme Lord.
वेद, यज्ञ और यज्ञों के फल भी ये ही हैं; लोकों में जितने भी कर्म हैं, उन सबके स्वामी यही रवि हैं।
एनमापत्सु कृच्छ्रेषु कान्तारेषु भयेषु च। कीर्तयन् पुरुषः कश्चिन्नावसीदति राघव॥
Enam apatsu kricchhreshu kantareshu bhayeshu cha Kirtayan purushah kashchin navasidati Raghava
O Raghava, any person who glorifies this Sun in times of calamity and crisis, in treacherous wilderness, in moments of fear when the heart itself threatens to fail, that person shall not sink, shall not be overwhelmed, shall not be destroyed. This is the shield of the Sun: invoked with devotion, it makes the devotee unconquerable.
हे राघव, विपत्तियों में, कष्टों में, दुर्गम वनों में और भय में, जो मनुष्य इनका कीर्तन करता है, वह कभी नष्ट नहीं होता।
पूजयस्वैनमेकाग्रो देवदेवं जगत्पतिम्। एतत् त्रिगुणितं जप्त्वा युद्धेषु विजयिष्यसे॥
Pujayasvainam ekagro Deva-devam jagat-patim Etat trigunam japtva yuddhesu vijayishyase
Worship this lord of lords, this master of all the worlds, with one-pointed, undistracted attention. Focus every faculty of mind and heart upon the blazing radiance of the Sun God. Recite this hymn three times without wavering and with absolute conviction, and you shall achieve victory in this battle, O Rama; this is the promise of the eternal Dharma.
इसलिए एकाग्र होकर इन देवाधिदेव जगत्पति की पूजा करो; इसका तीन बार जप करके तुम युद्ध में विजय पाओगे।
अस्मिन् क्षणे महाबाहो रावणं त्वं वधिष्यसि। एवमुक्त्वा तदाऽगस्त्यो जगाम च यथागतम्॥
Asmin kshane maha-baho Ravanam tvam vadhishyasi Evam uktva tadagastyo jagama cha yathaghatam
O mighty-armed one, in this very moment, in this very hour, you shall slay Ravana. With these words of absolute certainty spoken by the sage who sees the future as the present, Agastya departed as he had come, dissolving back into the realm of the divine, leaving Rama standing renewed, transformed, the fog of despair burned away by the Sun's own fire.
हे महाबाहो, इसी क्षण तुम रावण का वध करोगे। ऐसा कहकर अगस्त्य जैसे आए थे, वैसे ही चले गए।
एतच्छ्रुत्वा महातेजाः नष्टशोकोऽभवत् तदा। धारयामास सुप्रीतो राघवः प्रयतात्मवान्॥
Etach chhrutva mahatejah nashtashoko abhavat tada Dharayamasa supreto Raghavah prayatatmavan
Hearing these words of the sage, Rama, that great blazing hero, was freed from all sorrow. The grief, the exhaustion, the despair that had settled over him like a shroud lifted and dissolved. With a purified and tranquil spirit, with deep and joyful devotion swelling in his heart, Raghava held the teaching of the Sun within him as a warrior holds his sword, ready at last.
यह सुनकर महातेजस्वी राघव का शोक नष्ट हो गया; प्रसन्न होकर उन्होंने संयत मन से इस स्तोत्र को धारण किया।
आदित्यं प्रेक्ष्य जप्त्वा तु परं हर्षमवाप्तवान्। त्रिराचम्य शुचिर्भूत्वा धनुरादाय वीर्यवान्॥
Adityam prekshya japtva tu param harshham avaptavan Trirachamya shuchirbhutva dhanur-adaya viryavan
Gazing directly at the Sun with steady eyes, Rama recited the hymn and was filled with supreme joy. He sipped water three times in ritual purification, becoming wholly clean in body, speech, and mind. Then this mightiest of warriors took up his bow, his great bow that had broken the pride of countless foes, and he stood ready, his soul alight with the very fire of the Sun God himself.
सूर्य की ओर देखकर, इसका जप करके उन्होंने परम हर्ष पाया; तीन बार आचमन कर, शुद्ध होकर उस वीर ने धनुष उठाया।
रावणं प्रेक्ष्य हृष्टात्मा युद्धाय समुपागमत्। सर्वयत्नेन महता वधे तस्य धृतोऽभवत्॥
Ravanam prekshya hrishtatma yudhaya samupaghamat Sarva-yotnena mahata vadhey tasya dhruto abhavat
Beholding Ravana across the battlefield, Rama's spirit blazed with fierce and righteous exhilaration. He strode forward to battle with the totality of his divine strength and sovereign determination. With the complete force of his being, his every last reserve of valor and cosmic purpose, he resolved in that moment: Ravana would fall, and the world would be delivered from darkness.
रावण को देखकर हर्षित मन से वे युद्ध के लिए आगे बढ़े, और पूरे प्रयत्न से उसके वध का निश्चय किया।
अथ रविरवदन् निरीक्ष्य रामं मुदितमनाः परमं प्रहृष्यमाणः। निशिचरपतिसंक्षयं विदित्वा सुरगणमध्यगतो वचस्त्वरेति॥
Atha raviravadam nirikshya Ramam mudita-manah paramam prahrishyamanah Nishichara-pati-samkshayam viditva sura-gana-madhya-gato vachas tvara iti
Then the Sun God himself, standing in the midst of the assembled host of all the gods, gazed upon Rama with a heart overflowing with the deepest and most exalted joy. Knowing with divine certainty that the destruction of the lord of demons was now at hand, he spoke one final word to Rama: Hurry. The hour of victory, of liberation, of eternal righteousness, is now.
तब प्रसन्न मन से सूर्यदेव ने राम को देखा, और देवताओं के बीच से, रावण के अन्त को निकट जानकर, हर्षपूर्वक कहा: शीघ्रता करो।

This hymn appears in the Yuddha Kanda of Valmiki's Ramayana, recited by the sage Agastya to Lord Rama on the battlefield of Lanka. Rama stood exhausted and despondent before the seemingly invincible Ravana, and Agastya appeared to teach him this secret hymn to the Sun. After reciting it three times, Rama was filled with renewed energy and divine radiance, and immediately defeated Ravana. It is traditionally chanted at sunrise and before undertaking difficult endeavors.
यह स्तोत्र वाल्मीकि रामायण के युद्ध कांड में आता है, जो ऋषि अगस्त्य ने लंका के युद्धक्षेत्र में भगवान राम को सुनाया था। राम अजेय प्रतीत होने वाले रावण के सामने थके और निराश खड़े थे, तब अगस्त्य प्रकट हुए और उन्हें सूर्य का यह गुप्त स्तोत्र सिखाया। तीन बार इसका पाठ करने के बाद, राम नई ऊर्जा और दिव्य तेज से भर गए और तुरंत रावण का वध किया। परंपरागत रूप से इसका पाठ सूर्योदय के समय और कठिन कार्यों से पहले किया जाता है।
रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्ट्वा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम्॥
Ravanam chagrato drishtva yuddhaya samupasthitam
with Ravana before him, arrayed for war once more,
Sage Agastya descended from the heavens to bestow sacred wisdom,
for the moment of supreme crisis had arrived. युद्ध से थके हुए, रणभूमि में चिन्ता में डूबे राम को,
और सामने युद्ध के लिए उपस्थित रावण को देखकर,
उपागम्याब्रवीद् रामं अगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः॥
Upagamyabravid Ramam Agastyo Bhagavan Rishih
Approaching Rama with compassion and urgency, he spoke these words:
the eternal secret that defeats all darkness was about to be revealed,
and the fate of creation hung in the balance. देवताओं के साथ युद्ध देखने आए
भगवान ऋषि अगस्त्य राम के पास आकर बोले:
येन सर्वानरीन् वत्स समरे विजयिष्यसे॥
Yena sarvan arin vatsa samare vijayishyase
By this supreme knowledge, dear one, you shall conquer all your enemies in battle.
This is the timeless wisdom of the cosmos, hidden from the unworthy,
now given freely so that righteousness may prevail over evil. हे महाबाहु राम, यह सनातन गुप्त स्तोत्र सुनो,
जिससे हे वत्स, तुम युद्ध में समस्त शत्रुओं पर विजय पाओगे।
जयावहं जपेन्नित्यं अक्षय्यं परमं शिवम्॥
Jayavaham japen nityam akshayyam paramam shivam
He who recites it always shall be led to victory; it is inexhaustible and supremely auspicious.
This hymn resides in the very heart of Aditya, the Sun, the soul of the universe,
and its power is infinite and eternal. यह पवित्र आदित्य हृदय समस्त शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाला है,
विजय दिलाने वाला, अक्षय और परम कल्याणकारी; इसका नित्य जप करो।
चिन्ताशोकप्रशमनं आयुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम्॥
Chinta-shoka-prashamanam ayur-vardhanam uttamam
It calms anxiety and grief, and it bestows the greatest extension of life and vitality.
For Rama, crushed beneath the weight of sorrow and the burden of relentless war,
these words were medicine, restoration, and a call back to his divine purpose. यह समस्त मंगलों का मंगल है, समस्त पापों का नाश करने वाला,
चिन्ता और शोक को शान्त करने वाला, और आयु बढ़ाने वाला उत्तम स्तोत्र है।
पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम्॥
Pujayasva Vivasvantam Bhaskaram Bhuvaneshvaram
adorned before whom both gods and demons bow in reverence.
Adore Bhaskara, the maker of light, the sovereign lord of all the worlds,
for in him resides the supreme creative and sustaining power of existence. किरणों से युक्त, उदय होते हुए, देवों और असुरों से नमस्कृत
विवस्वान सूर्य की पूजा करो, जो भुवनों के ईश्वर और जगत के प्रकाशक हैं।
एष देवासुरगणांल्लोकान् पाति गभस्तिभिः॥
Esha devashura-gananl lokan pati gabhastibhih
nourishing all worlds with his life-giving rays.
All divine beings and the hosts of demons are contained within his being,
and it is his light alone that sustains every living creature in every realm. ये ही समस्त देवताओं की आत्मा हैं, तेजस्वी और किरणों से जगत को जीवन देने वाले;
ये ही अपनी रश्मियों से देवों, असुरों और सब लोकों का पालन करते हैं।
महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपां पतिः॥
Mahendro Dhanadah Kalo Yamah Somo hyapam patih
He is Skanda, Prajapati, Mahendra, Kubera the lord of wealth, Yama the lord of death.
He is Soma the moon and the lord of waters, all divine forces unified in a single radiance,
for the Sun is not one among many gods but the living totality of all divinity. ये ही ब्रह्मा हैं, विष्णु हैं, शिव, स्कन्द और प्रजापति हैं,
महेन्द्र, कुबेर, काल, यम, सोम और वरुण भी ये ही हैं।
वायुर्वह्निः प्रजाः प्राण ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः॥
Vayurvahnih Prajah Prana Ritu-karta Prabhakara
He is the Maruts, Manu, Vayu the wind, Agni the sacred fire, and the life-breath of all beings.
He is the maker of seasons, Prabhakara, the one whose light is the very source of time and life,
the pulse of creation itself throbbing in the heart of the cosmos. पितर, वसु, साध्य, अश्विनीकुमार, मरुद्गण, मनु,
वायु, अग्नि, प्रजा, प्राण, ऋतुओं के कर्ता और प्रभाकर, सब ये ही हैं।
सुवर्णसदृशो भानुर्हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः॥
Suvarna-sadrisho Bhanurhiranya-reta Divakara
He is golden as refined gold itself; he is Bhanu, the luminous one, Hiranyareta, the golden-seeded.
He is Divakara, the maker of the day, whose first rays dissolve the terrors of the night,
as Rama was called now to dissolve the darkness of Ravana's demonic reign. ये आदित्य हैं, सविता, सूर्य, आकाश में विचरने वाले खग, पूषा, गभस्तिमान,
स्वर्ण के समान भानु, हिरण्यरेता और दिवाकर।

Timironmathanah Shambhus tvashtha Martanda Ansuman
He is Marichiman, the one who shines with infinite rays, and Timironmathana, the destroyer of darkness.
He is Shambhu, Tvashtha the celestial craftsman, Martanda the egg of the cosmos, and Ansuman the radiant.
In each name resides a power, and together they form the complete armor of the Sun against all evil. हरित अश्वों वाले, सहस्र किरणों वाले, सात घोड़ों वाले, मरीचिमान,
अन्धकार का मंथन करने वाले, शम्भु, त्वष्टा, मार्तण्ड और अंशुमान।
अग्निगर्भोऽदितेः पुत्रः शङ्खः शिशिरनाशनः॥
Agnigarbho Aditeh putrah Shankhah Shishira-nashanah
He is Tapana who gives warmth, Bhaskara who illumines, Ravi the ever-moving, Agnigarbha the fire-wombed.
He is the son of Aditi, mother of all gods, and Shankha, the destroyer of cold and inertia.
All that exists was born from his light and returns into his radiance at the end of time. हिरण्यगर्भ, शिशिर, तपन, भास्कर और रवि,
अग्नि को गर्भ में धारण करने वाले, अदिति के पुत्र, शंख और शिशिर का नाश करने वाले।
घनवृष्टिरपां मित्रो विन्ध्यवीथीप्लवङ्गमः॥
Ghanavrishtir apam mitra Vindhya-vithi-plavangamah
He has transcended the Rig, Yajur, and Sama Vedas; the scriptures themselves arise from and point back to him.
He brings the heavy rains, the friend of all waters, leaping freely over the Vindhya ranges.
No barrier of mountain, mind, or circumstance can obstruct his sovereign passage through the heavens. आकाश के स्वामी, अन्धकार को भेदने वाले, ऋग्, यजुः और साम वेदों के पारगामी,
घन वर्षा के कारण, जल के मित्र, और विन्ध्य पथ को लांघने वाले।
कविर्विश्वो महातेजाः रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः॥
KavirVishvo Mahatejah Raktah Sarva-bhavodbhavah
He is Pingala the tawny one, Sarvatapana who heats all creation without exception.
He is the cosmic poet Kavi, Vishva the all-pervading, Mahateja of supreme brilliance, Rakta the red-hued.
And he is Sarva-bhavodbhava: the ultimate source from which all existence springs. आतपी, मण्डली, मृत्यु स्वरूप, पिंगल, सबको तपाने वाले,
कवि, विश्व, महातेजस्वी, रक्त वर्ण और समस्त सृष्टि के उद्गम।
तेजसामपि तेजस्वी द्वादशात्मन् नमोऽस्तु ते॥
Tejasam api tejasvi Dvadashatman namo'stu te
He is Vishvabhavanah, the sustainer and nourisher of the entire universe without limit.
He is the radiance even within all radiances, the light behind every lesser light.
O twelve-formed Sun, the twelve months and all forms of time bow in humble reverence before you. नक्षत्रों, ग्रहों और तारों के अधिपति, विश्व के पालक,
तेजस्वियों में भी परम तेजस्वी, हे द्वादश स्वरूपों वाले सूर्य, आपको नमस्कार।
ज्योतिर्गणानां पतये दिनाधिपतये नमः॥
Jyotirganam pataye dinadhipataye namah
Salutation to the western mountain where you descend, completing your sacred daily passage.
Salutation to the lord of all luminaries, all stars and constellations attending upon you.
Salutation to the master of the day, into whose hands every dawn is freshly given. पूर्व गिरि को नमस्कार, पश्चिम गिरि को नमस्कार,
ज्योतियों के गणों के स्वामी और दिन के अधिपति को नमस्कार।

Salutation to Haryashva, the driver of the green horses of dawn, green as new creation.

Salutation, salutation to Aditya, the son of Aditi, the limitless and the liberated one. जय स्वरूप को, विजय और कल्याण देने वाले को, हरित अश्वों वाले को बार-बार नमस्कार,

नमः पद्मप्रबोधाय मार्तण्डाय नमो नमः॥
Namah padma-prabodhaya Martandaya namo namah
Salutation, salutation to the awakener of the lotus, whose very rising opens the sleeping flower of the heart.
Salutation to Martanda, the undying cosmic egg, from whom the whole universe was hatched.
As the lotus opens to the Sun without effort, may Rama's heart open now to receive divine courage. उग्र को, वीर को, सारंग को बार-बार नमस्कार,
कमलों को जगाने वाले मार्तण्ड को बार-बार नमस्कार।
भास्वते सर्वभक्षाय रौद्राय वपुषे नमः॥
Bhasvate sarva-bhakshaya Raudraya vapushe namah
Salutation to Surya blazing with the incomparable brilliance of Aditya.
Salutation to the all-consuming Sarva-bhaksha, devouring time and dissolution alike,
and to the terrifying Raudra form, destroyer of all that stands against the cosmic order. ब्रह्मा, शिव और विष्णु के भी ईश्वर को, सूर्य को, आदित्य के तेज वाले को,
प्रकाशमान, सबको भस्म करने वाले, रौद्र रूप को नमस्कार।

Kritaghna-ghnaya devaya jyotisham pataye namah
Salutation to the slayer of enemies and the one of immeasurable, boundless soul.
Salutation to the destroyer of the ungrateful, of those who forget the divine light within them.
Salutation to the resplendent god, the sovereign master of all lights in heaven and earth. अन्धकार के नाशक को, हिम के नाशक को, शत्रुओं के नाशक को, अमित आत्मा वाले को,
कृतघ्नों का नाश करने वाले देव को, ज्योतियों के पति को नमस्कार।

Namasthamo-abhi-nighnaya ruchaye loka-sakshineh
Salutation to the sacred fire/Agni, the purifier, and to Vishvakarma, the architect of the cosmos.
Salutation to the supreme destroyer of darkness in its most profound and tenacious forms.
Salutation to Ruchi the resplendent, and to Loka-Sakshi, the eternal witness of all worlds. तपे हुए स्वर्ण के समान आभा वाले को, अग्नि स्वरूप को, विश्वकर्मा को,
अन्धकार को नष्ट करने वाले, कान्तिमान, जगत के साक्षी को नमस्कार।
पायत्येष तपत्येष वर्षत्येष गभस्तिभिः॥
Payatyesha tapatyesha varshayesha gabhastibhih
And he it is, the same Lord, who creates it all again with sovereign creative will.
With his rays he sustains all life, with his heat he draws the waters upward into clouds,
and then as rain he pours them back, nourishing every seed and every creature below. यही प्रभु समस्त भूतों का संहार करते हैं और फिर उन्हीं की सृष्टि करते हैं;
यही अपनी किरणों से जल सोखते हैं, तपते हैं और वर्षा करते हैं।
एष एवाग्निहोत्रं च फलं चैवाग्निहोत्रिणाम्॥
Esha evagni-hotram cha phalam chaiva agni-hotrinam
He is established within all beings as the innermost light that never goes out.
He himself is the sacred fire of the Agnihotra ritual, the flame kindled at dawn and dusk.
And he is the very fruit, the liberation, that the one who tends that sacred fire attains. ये सब प्राणियों के सो जाने पर भी उनके भीतर जागते रहते हैं;
ये ही अग्निहोत्र हैं और अग्निहोत्रियों को मिलने वाला फल भी।
यानि कृत्यानि लोकेषु सर्व एष रविः प्रभुः॥

He is the sacrifices and rituals, and he is also the fruit that those rituals bestow.
All actions undertaken in all the worlds, every deed of righteousness and power,
exist within and find their ultimate purpose in Ravi, the sovereign Sun, the supreme Lord. वेद, यज्ञ और यज्ञों के फल भी ये ही हैं;
लोकों में जितने भी कर्म हैं, उन सबके स्वामी यही रवि हैं।
कीर्तयन् पुरुषः कश्चिन्नावसीदति राघव॥
Kirtayan purushah kashchin navasidati Raghava
in treacherous wilderness, in moments of fear when the heart itself threatens to fail,
that person shall not sink, shall not be overwhelmed, shall not be destroyed.
This is the shield of the Sun: invoked with devotion, it makes the devotee unconquerable. हे राघव, विपत्तियों में, कष्टों में, दुर्गम वनों में और भय में,
जो मनुष्य इनका कीर्तन करता है, वह कभी नष्ट नहीं होता।
एतत् त्रिगुणितं जप्त्वा युद्धेषु विजयिष्यसे॥
Etat trigunam japtva yuddhesu vijayishyase
Focus every faculty of mind and heart upon the blazing radiance of the Sun God.
Recite this hymn three times without wavering and with absolute conviction,
and you shall achieve victory in this battle, O Rama; this is the promise of the eternal Dharma. इसलिए एकाग्र होकर इन देवाधिदेव जगत्पति की पूजा करो;
इसका तीन बार जप करके तुम युद्ध में विजय पाओगे।
एवमुक्त्वा तदाऽगस्त्यो जगाम च यथागतम्॥
Evam uktva tadagastyo jagama cha yathaghatam
With these words of absolute certainty spoken by the sage who sees the future as the present,
Agastya departed as he had come, dissolving back into the realm of the divine,
leaving Rama standing renewed, transformed, the fog of despair burned away by the Sun's own fire. हे महाबाहो, इसी क्षण तुम रावण का वध करोगे।
ऐसा कहकर अगस्त्य जैसे आए थे, वैसे ही चले गए।
धारयामास सुप्रीतो राघवः प्रयतात्मवान्॥
Dharayamasa supreto Raghavah prayatatmavan
The grief, the exhaustion, the despair that had settled over him like a shroud lifted and dissolved.
With a purified and tranquil spirit, with deep and joyful devotion swelling in his heart,
Raghava held the teaching of the Sun within him as a warrior holds his sword, ready at last. यह सुनकर महातेजस्वी राघव का शोक नष्ट हो गया;
प्रसन्न होकर उन्होंने संयत मन से इस स्तोत्र को धारण किया।
त्रिराचम्य शुचिर्भूत्वा धनुरादाय वीर्यवान्॥
Trirachamya shuchirbhutva dhanur-adaya viryavan
He sipped water three times in ritual purification, becoming wholly clean in body, speech, and mind.
Then this mightiest of warriors took up his bow, his great bow that had broken the pride of countless foes,
and he stood ready, his soul alight with the very fire of the Sun God himself. सूर्य की ओर देखकर, इसका जप करके उन्होंने परम हर्ष पाया;
तीन बार आचमन कर, शुद्ध होकर उस वीर ने धनुष उठाया।
सर्वयत्नेन महता वधे तस्य धृतोऽभवत्॥
Sarva-yotnena mahata vadhey tasya dhruto abhavat
He strode forward to battle with the totality of his divine strength and sovereign determination.
With the complete force of his being, his every last reserve of valor and cosmic purpose,
he resolved in that moment: Ravana would fall, and the world would be delivered from darkness. रावण को देखकर हर्षित मन से वे युद्ध के लिए आगे बढ़े,
और पूरे प्रयत्न से उसके वध का निश्चय किया।
निशिचरपतिसंक्षयं विदित्वा सुरगणमध्यगतो वचस्त्वरेति॥
Nishichara-pati-samkshayam viditva sura-gana-madhya-gato vachas tvara iti
gazed upon Rama with a heart overflowing with the deepest and most exalted joy.
Knowing with divine certainty that the destruction of the lord of demons was now at hand,
he spoke one final word to Rama: Hurry. The hour of victory, of liberation, of eternal righteousness, is now. तब प्रसन्न मन से सूर्यदेव ने राम को देखा,
और देवताओं के बीच से, रावण के अन्त को निकट जानकर, हर्षपूर्वक कहा: शीघ्रता करो।

in treacherous wilderness, in moments of fear when the heart itself threatens to fail,
that person shall not sink, shall not be overwhelmed, shall not be destroyed.
This is the shield of the Sun: invoked with devotion, it makes the devotee unconquerable. हे राघव, विपत्तियों में, कष्टों में, दुर्गम वनों में और भय में,
जो मनुष्य इनका कीर्तन करता है, वह कभी नष्ट नहीं होता।
Focus every faculty of mind and heart upon the blazing radiance of the Sun God.
Recite this hymn three times without wavering and with absolute conviction,
and you shall achieve victory in this battle, O Rama; this is the promise of the eternal Dharma. इसलिए एकाग्र होकर इन देवाधिदेव जगत्पति की पूजा करो;
इसका तीन बार जप करके तुम युद्ध में विजय पाओगे।
With these words of absolute certainty spoken by the sage who sees the future as the present,
Agastya departed as he had come, dissolving back into the realm of the divine,
leaving Rama standing renewed, transformed, the fog of despair burned away by the Sun's own fire. हे महाबाहो, इसी क्षण तुम रावण का वध करोगे।
ऐसा कहकर अगस्त्य जैसे आए थे, वैसे ही चले गए।
The grief, the exhaustion, the despair that had settled over him like a shroud lifted and dissolved.
With a purified and tranquil spirit, with deep and joyful devotion swelling in his heart,
Raghava held the teaching of the Sun within him as a warrior holds his sword, ready at last. यह सुनकर महातेजस्वी राघव का शोक नष्ट हो गया;
प्रसन्न होकर उन्होंने संयत मन से इस स्तोत्र को धारण किया।
He sipped water three times in ritual purification, becoming wholly clean in body, speech, and mind.
Then this mightiest of warriors took up his bow, his great bow that had broken the pride of countless foes,
and he stood ready, his soul alight with the very fire of the Sun God himself. सूर्य की ओर देखकर, इसका जप करके उन्होंने परम हर्ष पाया;
तीन बार आचमन कर, शुद्ध होकर उस वीर ने धनुष उठाया।
He strode forward to battle with the totality of his divine strength and sovereign determination.
With the complete force of his being, his every last reserve of valor and cosmic purpose,
he resolved in that moment: Ravana would fall, and the world would be delivered from darkness. रावण को देखकर हर्षित मन से वे युद्ध के लिए आगे बढ़े,
और पूरे प्रयत्न से उसके वध का निश्चय किया।
gazed upon Rama with a heart overflowing with the deepest and most exalted joy.
Knowing with divine certainty that the destruction of the lord of demons was now at hand,
he spoke one final word to Rama: Hurry. The hour of victory, of liberation, of eternal righteousness, is now. तब प्रसन्न मन से सूर्यदेव ने राम को देखा,
और देवताओं के बीच से, रावण के अन्त को निकट जानकर, हर्षपूर्वक कहा: शीघ्रता करो।
